Walk to Defeat ALS
With no cure or prevention options, 5,600 people are suffering every year. Orlando wants to turn this around. On March 9th, more than one thousand people will walk to defeat ALS – also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. The walk will take place at Lake Eola in Downtown Orlando, Florida.
ALS is a fatal neurodegenerative disease causing function loss to the nervous system. According to the ALS Association, patients have a 2-5 year life expectancy with the diagnosis. However, the disease is unpredictable with some patients living longer than five years from the initial diagnosis. This tragic disease can affect any racial or social economical boundaries. Symptoms include muscle weakness, twitching, arm and leg impairment and thick speech.
To be part of the research for a cure, join the ALS Association’s Florida Chapter on March 9th for Orlando Walk to Defeat ALS™. All proceeds will go toward patient care and research to find a cure.
When: Friday, March 9, 2012 4:30 pm – Registration 6:00 pm – Walk Begins
Where: Lake Eola – 195 N. Rosalind Avenue, Orlando, FL
Why: To raise funds and awareness for ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease), a progressive, fatal neurodegenerative disease. There is no known cause or cure for ALS at this time. All proceeds raised will support patient care and comfort, as well as research for treatments and a cure.
